Detailed Description of Error P2446

The OBDII error code P2446 indicates that the secondary air injection system pump on bank 2 is stuck in the on position. The secondary air injection system is designed to reduce emissions by injecting fresh air into the exhaust system to help burn off any remaining fuel particles. The system consists of an air pump, valves, and hoses that work together to inject air into the exhaust system.

The air pump is typically located on the side of the engine or near the air filter housing and is connected to the exhaust system via hoses. The pump is controlled by the engine control module (ECM) which receives input from various sensors to determine when to activate the pump.

When the ECM detects that the pump is stuck on, it will set the P2446 code and illuminate the check engine light. This code is specific to bank 2, which refers to the side of the engine that does not contain cylinder number one. Bank 2 typically includes cylinders 2, 4, 6, etc.

Possible Causes of Error P2446

  • Faulty secondary air injection pump
  • Failed or stuck air injection pump relay
  • Short circuit in the air injection pump wiring
  • Corrosion or water damage in the air injection pump connector
  • Failed or faulty air injection pump control module
  • ECM malfunction or software issue
  • Blocked or restricted air injection pump filter
  • Low battery voltage or electrical system malfunction

Possible Fixes for Error P2446

  • Replace the faulty secondary air injection pump
  • Check and replace the air injection pump relay if necessary
  • Inspect and repair any short circuits in the air injection pump wiring
  • Clean or replace the air injection pump connector if corroded or damaged
  • Replace the air injection pump control module if faulty
  • Update the ECM software or replace the ECM if necessary
  • Check and clean or replace the air injection pump filter if blocked or restricted
  • Charge or replace the battery if low voltage is detected
