Detailed Description of Error P2311

The OBDII error code P2311 stands for ''Ignition Coil ''D'' Secondary Circuit''. This code is triggered when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects an issue with the secondary circuit of the ignition coil ''D''. The ignition coil is responsible for generating the high voltage needed to create a spark in the engine''s cylinders. The secondary circuit refers to the part of the ignition coil that produces the high voltage output.

In a typical ignition system, the primary circuit is responsible for supplying the low voltage to the ignition coil, while the secondary circuit is responsible for generating the high voltage output. When the ECM detects a problem with the secondary circuit of the ignition coil ''D'', it will trigger the P2311 error code and illuminate the ''Check Engine'' light.

Possible Causes of Error P2311

  • Ignition coil ''D'' is faulty or has failed
  • Ignition coil ''D'' is not properly seated or connected
